Secondary Schools’ Programme – HEADSTRONG
Cycle Against Suicide Secondary evidence based Schools’ Programme – HEADSTRONG is designed as a whole school approach to mental health. It supports mental health education in schools, reduces stigma, promotes resilience and fosters a sense of belonging among young people.
Our schools’ programme, HEADSTRONG, can be used as part of a school’s self-evaluation process (SSE) in the area of wellbeing. Additionally, teachers will be given access to a series of lesson plans as well as creative ideas for teaching students about the different themes and activities that coincide. These can be used in transition year, fifth year and 6th year, such in Guidance and SPHE as well as cross curricular and outside of class.
This programme also promotes the Indicators of Wellbeing in Junior Cycle: Active, Responsible, Connected, Resilient, Respected, Aware.
Each of our themes and the activities used to promote them, can also align with the 400 hours of wellbeing in classes such as SPHE, CSPE, PE and other relevant short courses.
HEADSTRONG works in three core ways:
