What can Rainbows do for you?
Rainbows provides a 12-week peer group support programme for young people experiencing bereavement or loss/significant change resulting from parental separation, or divorce. There will generally be 5-6 others in your group, all of a similar age and loss experience. This is a free service available in many local communities.
Who can come to Rainbows?
Children and young people experiencing loss resulting from bereavement or parental separation/divorce. If you have suffered a traumatic loss e.g. murder, road traffic accident, suicide, you must have had some form of one to one support first.
What will happen when you contact a Rainbows programme?
- You can expect your name to be taken and informed generally when and where to expect the next programme to be available.
- Once you have joined a programme, Rainbows will allow you to engage with your own individual grief journey – to identify, name, understand, express and share their feelings, in a safe setting with trained listeners.
- Rainbows will allow you to have a shared experience and identify with others’ feelings… “I’m not the only one”, while acknowledging grief and loss – it’s ok to be sad.
- Rainbows is a listening service for children and young people, and will not give opinions, pass comment, make judgements, take sides or criticise.
Rainbows was run this year by Ms XXX in room 12 on Tuesdays. Rainbows is a club in our school that helps kids who are grieving. Some of us are suffering from a bereavement where a loved one has died. Some of us come to Rainbows because our parents are separating or divorcing. Rainbows helps us because we realise that we are not alone and other children are going through similar difficulties in their lives. We talk to each other about our worries and help each other through the tough times.
Here are some quotes from Rainbows members:
“Rainbows is a place where you can relax and share your feelings” Emma
“Rainbows club is a great way to share your worries with people who have the same problem” Justina
“Rainbows helps me get through tough days” Ciara
“Rainbows helps me with my life” Jennifer
“Rainbows is somewhere I can talk to people I trust and they help me. We have great fun too” Peter
“My Rainbows group is always there for me” Megan
