Press Release
Mel Sutcliffe, Founder and CEO of Quanta Capital, Joins Cycle Against Suicide as Patron.
February 2025
Cycle Against Suicide, a national mental health charity dedicated to promoting awareness and open conversations around mental health in Ireland, is delighted to announce Mel Sutcliffe, founder and CEO of Quanta Capital, as its new patron.
Mel Sutcliffe, a former international cyclist and a passionate advocate for youth, education, and sport, has been a steadfast supporter of Cycle Against Suicide for many years. His dedication to the charity, which unite cyclists of all ages and abilities, underscores his belief in the transformative power of community and shared purpose in tackling mental health challenges.
Over the last decade, as Quanta Capital CEO, Mel has specialised in large scale funding and investment in commercial real estate. His appointment as patron of Cycle Against Suicide represents his latest and most impactful commitment, to address critical social issues, leveraging his influence to amplify awareness and support in the fight against mental health struggles and suicide across Ireland. Through this role, he will not only lend his voice and visibility but also drive awareness and support, reaching countless individuals and empowering Cycle Against Suicide’s mission like never before.
Mel’s lifelong connection to cycling is evident not only in his sporting achievements but also in his efforts to secure the future of the Junior Tour of Ireland, which he has sponsored for over 25 years. His leadership and vision continue to inspire the next generation of cyclists, while his unwavering commitment to community causes reflects his broader mission to make a positive impact.
On his appointment, Mel Sutcliffe shared: “I am honoured and delighted to be Patron of the Cycle Against Suicide. Through cycling I have had some incredible moments in life but things go wrong in our lives and minds from time to time. With help and support everything passes and we need to offer hope to those who are struggling. I deeply admire the extremely important work the team carries out, and words cannot describe the magnitude of the efforts they make behind the scenes.”

Mel’s support will enable the charity to expand its vital services, reaching more individuals and families across Ireland—both north and south. Throughout 2025 it plans to broaden its education programmes and awareness initiatives, creating a supportive environment where mental health struggles are addressed early, and help-seeking behaviour is encouraged. This transformative partnership marks a significant milestone in the charity’s mission to foster a society where mental health is prioritised.
Aaron McCormack, Chairperson of Cycle Against Suicide, expressed his enthusiasm:
“We warmly welcome Mel Sutcliffe as our new patron. His passion for mental health advocacy and his determination to make a difference will undoubtedly inspire others to join our mission. With Mel’s leadership, energy, and vision as CEO of Quanta Capital, we are excited to strengthen our efforts and bring hope to those who need it most.”
Together, Mel Sutcliffe and Cycle Against Suicide are committed to breaking the cycle of suicide and fostering a society where mental health is prioritised and everyone feels empowered to seek the help they need.
