What can Lifeline do for you?
Lifeline is a 24/7 crisis helpline and counselling service for people in distress and despair. It is free from all landlines and mobiles. All calls are answered by qualified crisis counsellors, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Where appropriate, Lifeline may offer up to 6 sessions of locally based face-to-face counselling.
Who can contact Lifeline?
Lifeline is available for all Northern Ireland residents, no matter what age.
What happens when you contact Lifeline?
A lifeline counsellor will answer the phone. Sometimes the first call is the most difficult to make – so if you are worried about someone, offer to call Lifeline on their behalf, Lifeline will support you with every step. It is entirely your choice whether or not you remain anonymous or share some of your personal details with a Lifeline counsellor. A range of services are offered through Lifeline including counselling, complementary therapies and befriending or mentoring. If appropriate, an appointment can be arranged in your local area within seven days. If you are finding it difficult to talk because others are around, a Lifeline counsellor can phone you back within 24 hours or at a time that suits you to continue your call.
